Five People You Meet in Heaven - MOVIE REVIEW

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No movie is exactly like the book, but this one pretty much nailed it. Of course I would have been uberly infuriated if they hadn't, I mean Mitch Albom writes the shortest books, I've ever read! They better keep it close!
Everything was kept the same. They took out one part that stayed with me in the book, which was in the chapter with his wife. Where she was driving under a bridge and got into a car accident.
Everything else was exact. Pretty amazing if you ask me.
If you read the book, you will really like the movie. This movie truly brings the book to life.
The 5 people you meet in heaven was an amazing book, and an equally amazing movie!!
I hate when people feel the need to change a great book when they make it into a movie, and thankfully they didn't do that here.
Everything is pretty accurate and just how I imagined it in my head. If you enjoyed the book, you will 100% like the movie. And plus, the main character (when he's younger) looks like Taylor Lautner and Leonardo Dicaprio put together. YUMMY!!!!
More Than it Hurts You by Darin Strauss
~~~~~~~~~~~
Mimi hated The Lovely Bones and I loved it. So when she told me she wanted me to read a book that she hated called "More Than It Hurts You" I was all game!

But for once, I hated the book also! So many things pissed me off about it. 1. I didn't like the way the author wrote. 2. I didn't like the way he made the women in the book look so weak.

Dr. Stokes, one of the main characters was a black doctor, and a very good doctor at that. But Darin Strauss (the author) made her so weak it drove me insane. Apparently he felt it necessary to make her father an ex convict and have her marry a white jewish guy who ends up divorcing her and later dies. To make her life even crappier, everyone thought she was racist and was trying to break up a white family.

The book is about the Goldin family. Josh and Dori are the parents of Zack and it turns out Dori hurts the baby so she can get more attention from her husband. Dr. Stokes finds this out and wants to have Zack removed so he doesn't get hurt any more.

But in the end, Josh and Dori get to keep the baby because the hospital doesn't want their reputation ruined any more by Dr. Stokes and her convict father.

I kind of gave most of the book away but I think its ok because I don't want you to waste your time and read it. I understand Munchausen's by proxy is a real disorder (which is what Dori has) but still the whole book sucked. It had no real ending and made the men look powerful and the women look weak and unable to make good choices.

So in the end. Don't waste your time. I'm pissed I did!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I absolutely hated this book. When I first bought the book, I thought I would be interesting to read about Muchausens by Proxy, but the more the read the book, the more I wanted to finish it. I hated it, I hated that these people didn't realized that bitch Dori was F-ing crazy!
I totally hated the end. I felt like I had just wasted days of my life reading that book. The end was a huge disappointment. I literally closed the book and yelled "That's it?!?"
It was terrible. Terrible I tell you! Terrible!
No justice at all. Made no sense. I hated it.
Read it, only if you want to read something that pisses you off.
P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
P.S. I Love You is one of my favorite books. I bought it in Portland, Oregon so that I could have something to read on that long ass trip to Florida. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. This was the first book to make me both laugh out loud, and cry like a baby. I was literally laughing by myself on the plane. I think the people sitting next to me thought I had escaped Shutter Island.
Aside from the laughing, it was very sad. As you know, Holly's (the main character) husband dies at the beginning and leaves her 12 notes. She is to open one letter per month, and although some of the letters leads to something funny, it’s still sad that he isn’t with her.
It’s not your typical love story, but it’s amazing how her husband helps pull her out of that hole, and helps her through her first year without him, even in death.
BEAUTIFUL!
At the end, she doesn’t end up with anyone which Christina didn’t like, but I thought was perfect. I think people have to give themselves sufficient amount of time to move on. I think that she had a year to heal, with the help of her husband, and the end of the book is just the beginning of her new chapter.
I would definitely recommend this book to you all out there. And I’d also like to point out that you shouldn’t judge this book by its movie. I absolutely HATED the movie. I hated it so much, I can’t even watch it when it’s on HBO, I have to change the channel or walk out of the room. They totally butchered the book.
If you have read it or plan to read it, let me know what you think. I’m telling you right now, it was awesome!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So I have to start by saying I read this book because I really enjoyed the movie. Now, I really enjoyed the book and HATE the movie!! I don't understand how they can say the movie is based off the book because they are sooooooo different! The movie does it no justice at all, it's such a shame!

Holly is such a great character. I laughed and cried with her all the way through. She is so strong also. Even after the death of her husband, she finds ways to live her life. (With the help of her deceased husband and his list of course )

I really love how we learn so much about her brothers and sisters because they made the book so much better. You can easily relate to the family structure and the problems they encounter.

The ending I will say could have been better. I love my fairy tale endings and this one didn't have that. :(

All in all, I give the book a 9\10. Be sure to have your tissues ready because if you have a heart, you will need them!!

Have you seen the movie or read the book? Let us know what you think!

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book honestly surprised me. I really didn't think I would like it, and I certainly did not think I would like Bree Tanner. After all, she was the enemy! Right? WRONG!!!
Bree Tanner was one of the vampires that Victoria recruited in her little Army in the book Eclipse. If you've read the third book of the Twilight Saga, you will remember that Bree was only there for a few minutes, and all you see is that she's a bloodthirsty newborn. Obviously she dies, I know I'm not ruining anything for you because the title it's self is "The SHORT Second Life..."
I really liked that Bree was very conscious of her surroundings, and was very smart. I loved her special friend Diego, and I really liked Freaky Fred, whom Christina is convinced is smelly. He is repellant, and the thought of him makes people sick, but I don't believe that he isnecessarily smelly. You can read the book and be the judge of that.
I hated everyone else, and I loved finding out something that Edward knows that was never mentioned in any of the Twilight books. It was fascinating, and I NEVER use that word! There was a little secret that we didn't know about. I won't tell you what it is, but I will tell you that you will hate a certain group even more.
As Stephenie Meyer said in the beginning of the book, I wish Bree would have had a different fate in Eclipse, but what happened happened, and I'm glad she was able to give us a glimpse at the Army of Vampires. I wish she would also finish Midnight Sun now that she's back in vampire mode.
It's totally worth it if you're a true Twi-hard. I'm sure that you will understand the movie much better if you have this information and I promise you, you will like it. It's short, and a page turner.
Let us know what you think about the book, and please let me know if you thought Fred was smelly or not.
-Mimi
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stephenie Meyer is the smartest woman on the planet. I just spent $10 on a book that was 178 pages, and I would have spent $20 to read it if I had to! If that chick wrote 30 more books from every character's perspective, I would read every single one of them.

She brought us into the world of the new vampire, Bree and the world of the other newborns. Not only do I like Bree, but her boyfriend/friend/vampire she only kissed a few timesDiego was my favorite. They were so smart and teamed up and began to question what they were told by their leader, Riley. (btw I HATED RILEY) I wish they got to spend the rest of their lives together because after only two days, they really loved each other. :( Oh and I also really liked smelly Kevin (Freaky Fred). Although he only said a few things, he was an honest vampire and I thought it was sweet that he wanted Bree to come with him at the end!

I did not want this book to end at ALL. You probably already know how it ends, but in case you don't, I won't give it away.

I will say that it is pretty cool to hear about the Cullen's from another point a view. Bree had no idea who they were, and in the few minutes she knew them, she realized what great people they really are.

Did you read the book? What did you think? If Stephenie wrote a book from Diego's perspective would you read it? What about Victoria? I would!!!

Slumdog Millionaire a.k.a Q&A by Vikas Swarup

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Slumdog Millionaire is buy far one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. It’s the first book that’s not a love story that I can say I LOVED.
I took this book everywhere with me because I was hooked. I wanted to know what was going to happen next, and what it was in that story being told in that chapter that gave Ram Mohammed Thomas the answer for the next question.
There are very sad parts, but it’s the truth of what happens in poverty areas. Although it’s in a book, it’s very real, and those of us who were lucky enough to grow up safe and with some commodities should not only be grateful, but we should keep in mind that others haven’t been as lucky and our goal should be to try and help some day.
I thought in the book that I would hate Salim like I did in the movie, but Ram’s brother or best friend in the movie, is nothing like Salim. And Latika is also a made up character. No such person exists in the book.
It’s a wonderful book. You will learn new facts, be surprised by some of the twists, and you will have a huge amount of love and respect for the main character. He is truly a great person. We need more people like him in the world.
I strongly recommend this book to men and women. It’s GREAT! You will feel good at the end of it.
If you have read it or plan on reading it, please share your thoughts with us.
-Mimi
**
While having a discussion with Christina about the book, I said something that I'd like to share without you, that I previously hadn't. Hope this helps in giving you a new insight of the book.
"...but this is the life of many people in counties like the one our parents come from. I loved that this boy who had every reason to be a 'contract killer, world/man hater' is despite all odds, a wonderful person and best of all, gets his day and gets rewarded for his good deeds."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Never before have I read a book that was so different from the movie! It actually really pisses me off.

I'm not sure how to explain it, but the book is so raw and kind of depressing. So many things happen in Ram's life. He witnesses death of every kind (suicide, murder, near death experiences) and also sees things first hand that most people shouldn't. (Like a priest having sex with a guy and a girl next door being raped by her own father) I guess the movie chose not to show those things, but like it or not, that's real life.

This is definitely the number one book for having the most characters I wanted to punch in the face! Luckily, most of those ass wipes got what they deserved.

Even the ending had a crazy twist! I want to give it away but Mimi will get pissed.

I say if you enjoyed the movie, give the book a chance. It is very different and pretty crazy to say the least! One word of advice, make sure you pay close attention to the names because its so easy to get confused with the characters!

Have you seen the movie? What did you think? Have you also read the book? Let us know!
